Historic Tour – Two go into three for team Lindenberg
Lindenberg Racing arrived at Red Star Raceway for the weekend’s Historic Tour races with three cars and two drivers after Kirsten Venter pulled out after feeling ill on Friday afternoon, But Paige Lindenberg and Djurk Venter did the team proud with some great results at the Delmas racetrack.
Lindenberg endured an up-and-down weekend aboard her monster Ford Fairlane. “I had an amazing start to my day,” Paige admitted. “I never dreamed I would place that beast on pole position on a race track like Red Star. “Sadly I started losing brakes half way through race 1 and all the pumping unfortunately did not help as much I had hoped, so I decided to rather stop than risk it.
“Race 2 was a super challenge — I started at the back and had to fight through the traffic. “Then I lost second gear and I had to adapt my driving, but my big Ford V8 had enough grunt to overcome the challenge and I was delighted to bring it home third in race 2 and score some points to make up for the first race. “All in all an interesting and challenging day — once again I loved every minute!”
A little further back, Djurk Venter found himself doing double duty when wife Kirsten pulled out after feeling sick in practice Friday. “That was a fun weekend,” Djurk admitted. “Not quite as much fun as when I’m racing against Kirsten, but I really enjoyed driving both Escorts on the day and I was happy to bring my car home third in Class F to keep my title aspirations alive.”
Historic racing now takes a break until August, when Lindenberg Racing returns to action at the Dezzi Raceway on the KwaZulu Natal South Coast.
