Round four of the FIA Formula Two Championship will take place at Baku City Circuit, located in Azerbaijan’s capital, and Canamasas is looking to repeating another strong performance. Canamasas rocketed up from the back of the field to sixth after making a late charge

Sergio Canamasas will contest Round 4 of this year’s FIA Formula 2 Championship, the main feeder series to Formula 1, to be held in Azerbaijan. The Baku City Circuit made its appearance on the calendar last year but the Azerbaijani race track immediately found space in drivers’ heart due to a unique layout. Baku is the second longest circuit of the year (6.003 kilometres) and the world’s fastest street race track. Given its high-speed nature combined with walls, it leaves no margin for error due to the narrowness of the layout and demands extra concentration from any driver. Canamasas chalked up his first points finish of the season in Monte Carlo and the Spaniard is keen to extend its run in the Azerbaijani streets.

“I put in some hours on the Trident’s simulator in Italy once again. We managed to score our first points in Monte Carlo after starting from the back on the field. Baku is a new chance to experience another street circuit. This said, Monaco and Baku are pretty much diametrically opposite one another”, Canamasas explains. Sergio adds: “Baku is an extremely fast circuit but at the same time there are very slow turns by the walls of Baku’s Old Town. After being involved in a crash with Pierre Gasly, I put in a recovery drive in race 2. I was forced to pit and change a broken front wing but still brought a sixth place home. I’m eying another point-paying finish once again.”

After Friday’s free practice and qualifying sessions, both races will take place at 10.00 (CET) and 12.00 (CET) on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
