South African racing prodigy Eugene Denyssen has returned home to prepare for a 2018 assault on a senior European single seater championship through an intense karting program with SA international outfit Squadra Corse. Denyssen has his sights set on a full season of either FIA Formula 3 or the GP3 series next year and he will work with Squadra Corse to be best prepared for the season ahead.

“We are looking to launch a new attack on a possible Formula 1 career, which will begin with an intense program through Squadra Corse,” Eugene explained. “I will be training extensively in selected kart races in South Africa for the rest of the year under the watchful eye of 2009 World Karting Champion and former GP3 racer, Roman de Beer with my main focus on getting my sharpness and driving muscles back to prime for either a GP3 or a FIA Formula 3 campaign next year.”

Run by racing entrepreneur Mpho Gumbi, Squadra Corse is a South African outfit dedicated to schooling South African drivers for the world racing stage. “We are excited to have Eugene on board and assist him with his preparations to mount a formidable challenge in FIA F3 or GP3 next year,” Gumbi explained. “Eugene is a great talent to work with so I’m sure success in the senior categories of karting for us is imminent.”

Somerset West lad Eugene started karting at 12, winning the 2008 WPMC Mini Max Karting Rookie of the Year. In 2012 Deneyssen won both the SA National and WP Junior Max Karting Championships before racing in the 2013 European Karting Championship and earning South African colours. Eugene impressed with podiums and pace in his rookie main circuit season the British Formula 3 championship and now his sights are set on either the FIA F3 or GP3 in 2018 with Squadra Corse.
