South African race fans have something to cheer about at this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix meeting at the Red Bull Ring 7-8 July as Raoul Hyman takes to the track in chase of GP3 glory. Hyman is hoping to take advantage of his recent chance to shine in the Hungarian round of the Euroformula 3 Open, where he qualified on pole position before driving home to a podium third.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back into GP3 action at Spielberg this weekend,” Raoul admitted. It’s been a long break and we have worked hard on understanding what we need to do with the car since Barcelona in May and I’d say we are ready, especially after my surprise call up to race in the Euroformula 3 weekend at Hungoraring.

“My Campos Racing team asked me to step in for one of their regular drivers and we had a great weekend — we were on for a win from pole, but I had to avoid a collision at T2, which cost me a few places. “It was really good to get into a Formula 3 car again — I am grateful to Campos Racing and Adrian Campos for the opportunity and happy to score points for the team.

“I really enjoyed the weekend, but now we need to focus on the weekend ahead and to making a positive performance step in Austria.” The GP3 races happen after Formula 1 qualifying at 17h15 Saturday afternoon and before the main race at 09h10 Sunday morning.
