Sergio Canamasas joins Rapax team for Spielberg
The fifth round of the FIA Formula 2 season is fast approaching and Canamasas will be driving for Rapax at the Red Bull Ring. Canamasas is hopeful that he can expect a performance boots next weekend
Sergio Canamasas has signed a contract with Rapax to drive one of their Dallara GP2/11 cars at the Red Bull Ring, which is the fifth round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship next weekend. The only Spanish driver in the series has made this decision because his goal is to achieve another step forward in performance in comparison with previous races. Canamasas secured points finishes in Monte Carlo and Baku but expects to improve his ninth place and post his season-best finish.
“I have taken the decision to join Rapax for Austria. It was a good opportunity we couldn’t pass up. Sincerely, I don’t think three points to my name is exactly a good haul of points. Therefore, we are going to try a Formula 2 team swap. This said, I’m open over my future and we need to explore options but it will be after this weekend in due time” Canamasas explained. The Spaniard also added: “Red Bull Ring is an old school circuit. Overtaking won’t be as difficult as usual but my goal is to qualify well, because it makes things much easier, just like at the Baku City Circuit. I plan to have maximum attack both days.”
Race 1 is scheduled on Saturday at 15.35 (CET) and race 2 on Sunday at 10.20 (CET).
