Spaniard Canamasas, after going wrong with the setup on Saturday, moved up to ninth and finished 57 thousandths-of-a-second away from a third consecutive finish in the points after Monte Carlo and Baku

Sergio Canamasas almost recorded his third consecutive points scoring finish in the FIA Formula 2 Championship at the Red Bull Ring. Canamasas, behind the wheel of a Rapax-run Dallara GP2/11, started the weekend in a positive way as he finished 6th-fastest in the free practice session with a lap time of 1:14.877. Later in qualifying, Canamasas took 8th spot on his first set of tires but later he couldn’t find the time on his second set to improve due to yellow flags and dropped to 14th for Saturday race’s starting grid with his lap of 1:14.489.

On Saturday, Canamasas moved up into 10th at the start before pitting for his mandatory tire change on lap six. On his harder compound, the driver of Rapax made it to the finish but his pace dropped away in the closing stages and took the chequered flag in 15th place. On Sunday, the second race brought more positive results and, avoiding a stalled car on the grid, gained six places to run in 9th and fought with Nicholas Latifi for the final points position.

“Well, I got a positive feedback despite we didn’t manage to score points this time”, Canamsas said. Spain’s Canamasas also said: “we took a different direction with the setup on Sunday and it definitely paid off at the end of the race. I was fighting with Latifi for eight place, but Sette Camara was right up on my tail on the last lap and I lost time, which was decisive to frustrate my last attempt for eight.”
