Sergio Canamasas enjoys strong weekend at Silverstone
The Spaniard shown competitive pace through the weekend in the FIA Formula 2. Canamasas finished 5th after several brilliant passes on Saturday and took 4th through last-corner overtake on series leader Charles Leclerc on Sunday
Sergio Canamasas rounded off his best weekend of the season in the FIA Formula 2 so far as he secured fourth and fifth finishes in his Rapax-run Dallara. The Spaniard arrived in Great Britain having great expectations and met their goals playing a role of protagonist both days. Canamasas put his Rapax car into 6th on the timesheets in the opening free practice session on Thursday with his 1:41.328. The following day in qualifying, Canamasas continued that positive streak and took 7th spot on the starting grid for Saturday’s race one.
On Saturday, Canamasas fended off his rivals on lap one and pitted on lap 7 for his set of hard tires. From then on, he even traded fastest lap to pass Callum Ilott on lap 11, Alex Albon on lap 18 and two later Jordan King for 5th place. Today, he stated from fourth on the grid and lost a place at the start. Canamasas was involved in a close fight with Charles Leclerc for fifth place. Despite Leclerc passed him, Canamasas got in to the Monegasque’s slipstream and he overtook him in the last corner to move up to fourth. “I’m pleased with my performance because our pace was good. My tires started to spin as the lights went off. But it was the single thing not going according our plan. Our race pace was rather competitive and I was able to progress two places into fourth. It was an exciting fight with Leclerc. We have to continue performing like this!”, Canamasas said,
