AVF close to podium finish at Spielberg

The challenging month of July ended up with positive results for AVF by Adrián Vallés. After securing the championship lead in the World Series Formula V8 3.5, the Catalan squad barely missed a podium finish in the Austrian round of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 held at Red Bull Ring. After welcoming Thomas Randle in the last few rounds, AVF fielded Xavier Lloveras, who made his debut at Spielberg. The team thus fielded four cars, highlighting the effort of the whole staff.

Randle was off to a good qualifying session with fourth place in his group, and then proceeded to secure P4 at the end of race 1, really close to what would have been a podium finish. A total of two AVF cars ended up into the top-10 with Henrique Chaves finishing seventh. Axel Matus faced some bad luck, retiring in both races, while after ending up in P27 on Saturday, Lloveras fought back to P17 on Sunday. More points came in race 2 for Randle and Chaves, who finished sixth and tenth respectively.

“I’m delighted for how things are evolving for us in Eurocup. After some difficulties at the street circuits, our drivers regained confidence and the arrival of Thomas also pushed Henrique to improve. Both ended up qualifying 1 in the top-5 which is a great result, and we barely missed a podium finish on Saturday. Having secured valuable points in both races was also quite important. I feel for Axel, who had a double retirement, and I’m really satisfied for the progress made by Xavier in a single weekend. We will now have a month-long break before being back in action at Le Castellet in August.”
