Jean-Baptiste Mela scores his maiden victory and Ugo de Wilde clinches his first podium in Barcelona!
The drivers in the French F4 Championship took part in race 2 in the late afternoon. It was pretty hectic on the track as all the drivers went pedal to the metal. Jean-Baptiste Mela was on the front row, and when the lights went out the Corsican took a lead he was never to lose and scored his first victory of the season in masterly fashion.
Arthur Rougier who was third on the grid immediately latched onto Thomas Drouet, but it took him a few laps to get past into second place and head on to the podium. Ugo de Wilde was able to fend off the attacks of his pursuers and took advantage of the slightest opportunity in front of him. The young Belgian achieved his aim with third place on the podium.
Victor Martins finished just shy of the top 3 after making a great comeback from ninth place. He picked off his rivals one by one and scored precious points in the championship. Hugo Chevalier managed to stay among the front-runners and obviously likes the Barcelona layout as he gained a place. Just behind him came Charles Milesi taking advantage of the battles in front of him to see the flag in sixth place.
Florian Venturi did the same and finished seventh after a good scrap with Pierre-Alexandre Jean. Noah Watt and Marvin Klein rounded out the top 10 and had every reason to be pleased with their comebacks. Just behind these two was Stuart White who pressured the drivers in front of him but was unable to find a way past. Pierre-Louis Chovet and Adam Eteki making their debut in the F4 championship were not at all overawed and saw the flag in 11th and 12th positions respectively. Amaury Cordeel finished 13th taking advantage of retirements in the closing stages of the race.
Javier Gonzalez had to retire as he was involved in a collision when battling for seventh place. Christian Muñoz and Thomas Drouet also failed to see the chequered flag due to a technical incident.
