South Africa’s David Perel completed a clean sweep of 2017 Blancpain GT championship wins when he tied up the Endurance Cup with Kessel Ferrari at Barcelona over the weekend. In so doing, Perel completed a title triple as he added to the 2017 Sprint and Overall championships he had clinched earlier in the season in a trouble free meeting with Perel and teammates Jacques Duyver and Marco Zanuttini fast in both wet and dry conditions.

David took Pole Position in class during qualifying but his Ferrari 488 GT3 was forced to start from the pit lane after an engine issue stopped them getting to the grid. “It was a nervous moment,” David admitted. “In the end it was a small issue and we managed to start from the pit lane.” The aim for Perel and his team was simply to cross the finish line as they just required four points to seal the title, but the team managed to grab a podium in the AM class and more importantly seal the Blancpain Endurance Championship.

“I could not have dreamt of a more incredible year,” David concluded. “We won all the big races and I managed to win every Championship I competed in. “At the beginning of this year I decided to make racing my primary focus in my life and it’s proven to be an inspired choice — it’s an incredible feeling and I’d just like to thank everyone who’s made this possible.”
