Toni Forné kicks the 2018 season off at Monza contesting the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup and the Lamborghini Super Trofeo
Forné will take part in the main championship for GT3 cars with a Car Collection Motorsport-run Audi R8 LMS. In the ultra-competitive one-make championship organized by Lamborghini, Forné will race under the Target Racing srl banner. Both championships begin at Monza next weekend
Toni Forné has announced a double continental programme for the 2018 season as the Girona native driver will compete in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup and the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe. The calendar of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup includes venues such as Monza (2-22 April), Silverstone (19-20 May), Paul Ricard (1-2 June), Spa-Francorchamps (28-29 July) and Barcelona (29-30 September). The one-make series of Lamborghini will also race on the same weekends as the Blancpain GT Series Endurance at Monza, Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps with three other extra rounds at Mmisano (23-24 June), Nürburgring (15-16 September) and Vallelunga (15-16 November).
Forné will drive an Audi R8 LMS of Car Collection Motorsport in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup, with whom he claimed win at the Imola 12 hours last year. His teammates will be German drivers Frank Stiplpler and Dimitri Parhofer. Stippler is a factory Audi Sport driver with plenty of experience in GT racing. Parhofer is another seasoned driver in the GT3 category and already joined Forné at the Imola 12 hours. With a 54-car entry list, Forné and his teammates will fight for honors in the Pro-Am Cup in which there are names such as Alessandro Pier Guidi, Marku Winkelhock, Giancarlo Fisichella or Andrea Bertolini.
On the other hand, Forné joins Target Racing srl in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europeo sharing the Huracan with Russia’s Timur Boguslavskiy. There are 49 cars entered for the season-opening round, which also promises action-packed thrills.
“I’m extremely pleased announcing I will be driving in two top-tier racing championships such as the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup and the Lamborghini Super Trofeo. I truly believe that it’s the best moment in my racing career and a dream come true. I’m eager to drive both Audi and Lamborghini cars at the very best circuits in Europe and battling with famous drivers. It’s a great chance” explains Forné. The Catalan driver adds: “I’m making an extremely optimistic approach to the weekend because we are able to be in podium contention in both Pro-Am categories. Frank needs no introduction as he is a factory driver at Audi Sport. I know Dimitri well as he was one of my teammates in the 24H Series and I’m sure we will be competitive in the Pro-am Cup. Regarding the Super Trofeo, Timur is a fast young ace. I think we can achieve good results together. I’m looking forward to starting.”
Race 1 of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo takes place on Saturday at 15.10 (CET) with Sunday’s race 2 scheduled at 12.20 (CET), consisting of 50 minutes each. The 180-minute race counting towards the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup will take place on Sunday at 15.00 (CET).
