AVF shows top-10 form at Monza
Less than a week after the series opener at Le Castellet, the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 was back in action for the second round of the season, on another circuit of the highest level, Monza. The Italian venue is the fastest of the entire calendar and it was an important test bed for the AVF team and its drivers. After the complicated French outing, the team led by Adrian Valles went really close to the top-10, which disappeared only because of a combination of unfortunate external circumstances. After the drivers delivered great lap times in practice, in the two races the safety car conditions due to crashes, as often happens on the Brianza track, altered the situation considerably.
Eliseo Martinez finished the two heats in P15 and P12 overall and entered the rookie top-10 on both occasions. On the other hand, Axel Matus had little luck in both races due to incidents while Christian Munoz came back from the 12th row on to grid to P15 in race 2. Xavi Lloveras also set a good progression, from P20 to P16. The next round for the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and for AVF will be in a month on May 20, supporting the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup again at Silverstone.
Adrian Valles
“Monza was more of a “normal” weekend than Le Castellet. The team did a great job to prepare the cars in a short time, and so did our drivers who stayed focused. It is not easy to stay sharp at such tight paces for young rookie drivers, especially in championships of the highest level like the Renault Sport one. The final race results reflect our potential more than it happened in qualifying, but we have shown that we can easily stay at the front. The safety car situations had a crucial role, because while on one hand they helped to close the gap from the drivers in front, they allowed those who chased us to catch up. It was a good experience for our drivers, and I am confident that we will continue to improve at Silverstone.”
