AVF completes glamorous Monaco weekend
AVF completed the fourth round of the 2018 Formula Renault Eurocup season at Monte Carlo, in the most anticipated event of the calendar which supports the famous Formula 1 Grand Prix. The Spanish squad went back in action just a couple of days after Silverstone, thanks to a great effort from the whole staff. Xavier Lloveras, Eliseo Martinez, Axel Matus and Christian Munoz hit the track already on Thursday for free practice.
In Friday’s qualifying, Lloveras and Matus scored a top-10 laptime in their respective groups. However, slicing through the field was expected to be hard considering the twisty nature of the Monegasque street circuit, known for the few overtaking chances.
Avoiding any mistake or contact with the barriers, Lloveras ended race 1 in 16th position, while Matus was 18th. In race 2, Lloveras confirmed himself as the best AVF driver in Monaco clinching the 17th position, just in front of team-mate Martinez. On the other hand, an unlucky Matus was forced to retire after being hit by a rival car at the hairpin. Against all odds, Christian Munoz crossed the finish line on Saturday and Sunday, gaining fundamental mileage which will be very useful for his future seasons.
The Formula Renault Eurocup is now ready to enjoy a deserved break, as the next round will be at the Red Bull Ring on 21st and 22nd of July. In the same weekend, AVF will be on the Austrian track for European Le Mans Series.
