Highlights of the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup presented by OSCARO will be shown on television in Sub-Saharan Africa following an agreement between WTCR promoter Eurosport Events and StarTimes.

StarTimes is the leading digital TV operator in Africa. It serves nearly 10 million subscribers with a signal covering the whole continent and a massive distribution network of 200 brand halls, 3000 convenience stores and 5000 distributors.

The StarTimes Group, a Chinese multinational media company based in Beijing, owns a featured content platform with 480 authorised channels consisting of news, movies, series, sports, entertainment, programmes for children, fashion, religion, among others. The channels are broadcast in 10 different languages, including English, French, Portuguese, Africa indigenous languages and Chinese.

“We are very proud to broadcast the WTCR OSCARO to our African audience. StarTimes is always looking to offer the best sport content and with WTCR OSCARO, African car fans are getting the top competition for touring cars,” said Cole He Xin, StarTimes Media Division Sport Director.

StarTimes’ coverage of WTCR OSCARO will focus on race highlights in 2018 with all 10 events due to be shown during the remainder of year.

The StarTimes agreement complements existing partnerships with 2M in Morocco and OSN in the Middle East and North Africa region, which broadcast WTCR OSCARO races live.

“We’re very pleased to expand the WTCR OSCARO broadcast portfolio to include Sub-Saharan Africa through this new agreement with StarTimes. The Sub-Saharan region is strategically important to the development of mass-market car manufacturers with high-speed economic growth,” said François Ribeiro, Head of Eurosport Events, the WTCR promoter.

Up next on the schedule is WTCR Race of Portugal on the challenging Vila Real street circuit from 22-24 June.
