#USF2000 Round 6 – Van der Watt back on form at Toronto
Cape Town’s Julian van der Watt bounced back in style as he brought his US Formula 2000 machine home to two strong finishes as the series visited Toronto, Canada for the sixth round of the championship over the weekend.
Van der Watt qualified ninth for the first race on the tricky street circuit before racing to eleventh in the opening race before putting it 11th on the race 2 grid before storming up to a fine fifth position to relaunch his championship charge as he climbed back up the championship table.
“At last a great race on the streets of Toronto!” Julian celebrated after the race. “I came from out of the top ten to grab fifth position on old tyres — the car was amazing and the team did a great job and we are now looking forward to the next race at Mid Ohio in just 2 weeks as the series shifts up a gear through the US summer.
“We have had a few bad breaks over the past few races so it was great to be back on top of things – hopefully we are back on top of it now and it’s onward and upward from here”.
