Curtain closes on GT Cup preseason testing with Pujeu on a high note
Pujeu completed the final two day of official testing of the series at the wheel of the Teo Martín Motorsport-entered McLaren 570S. The Spaniard and his team will continue preparation work in the coming weeks ahead of season start in Le Castellet.
Guillem Pujeu concluded GT Cup Open preseason testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya with a second two-day Winter Series event, the last one ahead of the curtain-raiser round next month. Pujeu was back to drive the McLaren 570S in GT Cup Open-specifications of Teo Martín Motorsport and, just like in Le Castellet last February, comfort level improved on second day with lap times constantly improving. Pujeu lapped in 1:53s on Friday and the #18 McLaren nailed a lap of 1:52.721s on Saturday.
“We are pleased with our work throughout preseason testing. We were able to try very different set-up solutions and new elements in Le Castellet and Barcelona to know what works properly with the McLaren car. On a personal level, I am proud of my progress with the GT car, which is very different to Tatuus-Abarth Formula 4 car I am used to drive. The 570S is heavier and you need to get on the brakes early on but, at the same time, you have to deal with more than 500hp when you speed up” explains Pujeu. The 18-year-old driver underlines that “we gathered valuable data from testing to continue working with. In fact, I will pay a visit to Teo Martín Motorsport’s MSi tomorrow to continue our preparation. Hard work is a key factor considering how strong the championship is.”
The GT Cup Open will kick off at the Circuit Paul Ricard on 27-28 April with other five rounds scheduled at Spa-Francorchamps, Hungaroring, Silverstone, Barcelona and Monza.
