Faust Salom makes step forward to contest European GT series with McLaren

The Spaniard will drive a Teo Martín Motorsport-entered McLaren 570S in the Pan-European GT Cup Open championship, in which Salom will visit famous circuits such as Silverstone (England), Monza (Italy) or Spa-Francorchamps (Brlgium). Salom faces a key season for his future with chances to become a McLaren factory driver depending on the results

Faust Salom will make his debut in GT racing as the Spanish ace joins Teo Martín Motorsport to drive one of their McLaren 570S cars in the GT Cup Open, which is an all-new championship taking place in 2019, at some of the top-tier circuits across Europe. Above all, for Salom is an amazing opportunity to race with McLaren, one of the most iconic brands in motorsport. Besides, depending on his results throughout the season, Salom could become a McLaren factory driver. Teo Martín Motorsport, one of the most well-established teams in GT racing, is another strong addition to a winning project.

Salom explains that “after such a long period of time working behind the scenes, I am delighted to announce… I am back to racing! We have worked a lot during many months to secure this project joining McLaren and Teo Martín Motorsport. It will be a pleasure to drive the McLaren 570S GT Cup. I am extremely happy because after taking the Spanish Endurance Championship title twice, including the TCR class, I now moved into the European arena with excellent partners by my side to take up this challenge in the GT Cup Open Europe.”

The Spaniard also adds that “I feel confident because both McLaren and Teo Martín Motorsport are strong allies for the tough season ahead. Our goal is to fight for winning the series. My first outing with the McLaren car and Teo Martín were incredible. I managed to set competitive lap times from the beginning and, even more important, I clocked the fastest time among the McLaren drivers. That is something giving us confidence for the season-opening event at Paul Ricard. I am looking forward to starting the 2019 campaign. I want to show what I am able to do in GT racing with McLaren, such an iconic brand, and Teo Martín Motorsport, a top professional team. My goal is to bring the title home. Of course, I would like to extend my thanks to my sponsors because without their valuable support would be impossible. Last but not least, thanks to my family and friends, because they kept pushing beyond our limits. Let’s go!”

The calendar includes six rounds: Paul Ricard (France, 27-28 April), Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium, 8-9 June), Hungaroring (Hungary, 6-7 July), Silverstone (Great Britain, 7-8 September), Barcelona (Spain, 21-22 September) and Monza (Italy, 12-13 October). Apart from McLaren, the entry list will see other classic motorsport brands such as Porsche, Lamborghini, Mercedes or Audi foreseeing a closely-fought season.
