Mexican Javier González joins RP Motorsport’s EF Open title bid
Mexican Javier González joins forces with five-time title winners RP Motorsport to take part in the Euroformula Open. The 18-year-old driver is ready to take another step forward in his racing career securing a full-time programme in the Formula 3-based Pan-European racing series. He will drive a Toyota-powered Dallara F318 throughout a season consisting of nine rounds.
González made his debut on the European motorsport scene in 2017 competing in the Formula 4 Spain Championship. After his debut season, in which the young American ace claimed four podium finishes, he was a title contender in the same series and finally took the Vice-Championship with six wins to his name. González got his first taste of a Formula 3 car last year taking part in the final two rounds of the Euroformula Open.
González will kick off the 2019 season at Paul Ricard next week, then visiting Pau (May 18-19), Hockenheim (May 25-26), Spa-Francorchamps (June 8-9), Hungaroring (July 6-7), Red Bull Ring (September 7-8), Barcelona (September 21-22) and Monza (October 12-13).
Javier González: “I am delighted to secure such a nice racing programme to contest the Euroformula Open with RP Motorsport. Taking a look to their results in the series, they won everything both in Drivers and Teams classification, and not once but multiple times. I didn’t think twice about joining the team. It will be a season still tougher and more challenging as there are new engines built by Mercedes and Volkswagen in the series. Besides, there are also new top teams joining and an excellent pool of talented drivers following them. So, it will be hard. But I am looking forward to start this new chapter at Paul Ricard and where we are. RP Motorsport and I have clear goals, and they are to continue the same winning streak. Let´s start!”
