Mission accomplished for Aso, Capsi, Castillo and Fontes at Nürburgring

The all-Spanish driver line-up will enter the 24 hours of Nürburgring in June after his fourth-place finish in the ADAC Qualifikationsrennen 24h-Rennen last weekend. Aso, Capsi, Castillo and Fontes delivered a strong performance in their SORG Rennsport-run BMW 240i Racing Cup.

The Spanish driver line-up consisting of Álvaro Fontes, Guillermo Aso, Joaquín Capsi and Toni Castillo secured its first appearance at the mammoth Nürburgring 24 hours, which will take place on June 22-23. Their fourth-place finish in the ADAC Qualifikationsrennen 24h-Rennen, which was held at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife last weekend, will allow them to join a star-studded field in a classic endurance event. The Spaniards will share a SORG Rennsport’s BMW 240i Racing Cup once again.

Despite a wet forecast, the 6-hour qualifying race changed to the dry condition soon after the green flag. Capsi

explained that “when the lights came out we still faced tricky conditions as it rained at night. But it

improved rapidly and I headed into the pit lane for a tire change. Despite there were a few wet zones, I moved through the field by setting a strong race pace. In fact, I pitted for our first driver change running in fourth place in SP5 class”. Capsi handed over to Fontes who continued charging and moved up to second ahead of extremely experienced teams at the Nürburgring. In the second half of the race, some minor incidents during the final stints of Aso and Castillo cost valuable time and the #245 car finally took the chequered flag in fourth place.

“I’m extremely happy with our weekend. It was nice for my teammates and myself. Firstly, we secured our participation at the 24 hours of Nürburgring event in June. Secondly, I got my Permit A license and scored competitive lap times in my stint. We showed our driver line-up is competitive and, despite there will be more than thirty cars in our class, our goal is to give them a hard time!” underlined Fontes. His teammate Aso added: “we met our primary goal, which was to make it sixth at least. But it’s also important we feel strong for the 24 hours and can achieve a good result there.” Finally, Castillo concluded saying “I’m very motivated after this race, just like my teammates. We had a couple of minor issues, for instance when I had to restart my car when it stopped all of a sudden. But the main goal was to secure our presence at Nürburgring in June. And we did it! We are looking forward to racing there.”
