The Maserati Trofeo MC World Series makes a return to Italy for the third round of the season. Now at its halfway stage, events have so far been held in Spain and Portugal. This weekend the action will take place at Imola, the setting for the opening race in 2011.  The new race format, which got its first outing at Portimao, will also apply in Italy. This will see the drivers compete in three races over the weekend with a compulsory pit stop and a driver change for crewed cars in the longer races. Races 1 and 2 will be disputed over 30 minutes while Race 3 will last 50 minutes, a race format that will make the Trofeo even more exciting. The series is currently headed by Fascicolo/Sernagiotto on 56 points; next up are Romagnoli/Varini and Belgian Renaud Kuppens, from Konvex Motorsports, on 53 points.

Monaco-based driver Cedric Sbirrazzuoli topped the podium at Portimao in Saturday’s event while the wins went to Giorgio Sernagiotto and Renaud Kuppens on the Sunday. Joe Ghanem stood out in the endurance event, displaying the form he showed during the Trofeo JBF RAK – a championship recently held in the Middle East.

Video clips will be available in the days following the races at www.thenewsmarket.com  with in-depth reports, classifications, photos and driver interviews published on the www.maseraticorse.com website.
RMC (Radio Monte Carlo) is the Trofeo’s media partner. Each round of the championship will be presented on the weekly RMC motori and RMC ‘Music & Sport’ slots. For more information, updates, interviews, a photogallery and videos, visit the Blog Sport section at www.radiomontecarlo.net .
