Emphatic win for Doriane Pin in Ferrari Challenge
Today, Iron Dame, Doriane Pin, scored her maiden Ferrari Challenge Europe win from pole position at Portimao to kick off the 2022 season in style. The victory continues the success from last year’s championship win of Michelle Gatting for the Italian motor racing squad.
Showing strong pace throughout the weekend, 18-year-old Doriane topped the opening test session on Friday morning in her Ferrari 488 Challenge EVO car and proceeded to lead the field during qualifying, setting a time of 1:43.608 to go almost a second faster than the chasing pack and take pole position for today’s first race of the weekend.
From pole, Doriane got away cleanly and quickly established commanding lead to take a stunning victory with a margin of almost 20 seconds, kick starting her Ferrari Challenge Europe campaign in what is set to be a thrilling and intense battle in one of the most fiercely competitive one-make championships in the world.
Iron Dame, Doriane Pin, said: “What an unbelievable start the season! We had a good start and a great pace throughout. I want to thank the team for all their hard work this weekend. The goal is to continue this tomorrow and I’m hoping it’s the start of many race wins. Hopefully we can continue and fight for the championship again this year.”
Iron Dames Project founder, Deborah Mayer, said: “We couldn’t be happier for Doriane and the team for their performance today in Portimao. Everyone has been working tirelessly to get ready for this season and Doriane has delivered with a great result today. It puts us in a good position moving forward in the championship. We have another race tomorrow, so we are already focusing on that, but we must admire the performance today from the whole team.”
Race two of this weekend’s Ferrari Challenge Europe round at Portimao is scheduled for tomorrow 3rd April. Iron Lynx is also competing in the opening round of the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance series at Imola this weekend, with the race scheduled to start at 3pm CET tomorrow, 3rd April.
