Like father, like son…for only the second time ever, this scenario could be watched in a race last weekend (7th/8th July) in Oschersleben’s Motorsport Arena with Berlin men Peter and Stefan Mücke. Peter, team manager of Team Mücke Motorsport which is in action in the DTM, the Formula 3 Euro Series, the Formula 3 European Championships and the ADAc Formula Masters, and son Stefan, GT1 Vice World Champion 2011 as Aston Martin driver engaged in this year’s FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in a Vantage GTE and former DTM Mercedes pilot, clashed on the track in the Magdeburg region in two races, taking place within the Dutch Youngtimer Championships. In both instances, Stefan, in a Zakspeed Ford Escort BDA (2 litre, vintage 1976, around 270 horsepower), was ahead of his father’s game. The 30 year old only had to accept defeat by a stronger BMW on each occasion.

Peter Mücke (65), in his legendary Ford Capri RS (3.4 Litres, vintage 1974, around 450 horsepower), had secured the pole position in the 20 car strong field for his first race event of 2012, however fell back to the rear of the field following a misunderstanding at the start of Saturday’s rain race. He caught up admirably, finishing in fourth place. Sunday looked like the old master would win it, pushing himself to the front from fourth position and leading for several laps. “Unfortunately, I ran into trouble with the Capri’s petrol pump, forcing me into the pitstop after the car stalled”, reports the senior, who despite of his lost laps re-entered the race to try and get rid of the last place – to no avail. “If nothing else, it was well worth it to compete in a race with my son Stefan!” so Peter Mücke.

His son Stefan added: „Of course, we had great fun today, me probably more so than dad.“ The junior, who is generally responsible for preparing Mücke Motorsport’s Youngtimer cars, couldn’t help but grin over the family internal double victory. The catch: “I’ll get a lot more work again in the workshop now”, says Stefan Mücke. Father and son agree: “This was yet another motorsports event of the finest calibre – family barbecue in the evening included!”
