FIA Formula 2 Championship – PREMA Racing ends tough day at Zandvoort with double DNF

PREMA Racing had an incredibly tough day at Zandvoort, ending the FIA Formula 2 Championship Feature Race at the Dutch venue with a double DNF.
Coming from an uncharacteristic Saturday which saw the Sprint Race called off, the eventful opening stages of the Feature Race saw both PREMA cars off the track, with Frederik Vesti spinning and Ollie Bearman getting spun and passing through the gravel.
A safety car situation gave both drivers the chance to find redemption with the team operating a double-stack pit-stop in safety-car conditions.
Unfortunately, a pit issue caused the Danish racer to lose both his rear tyres. On the other hand, Bearman was set to fight for the podium or more, but he was eventually pushed wide forcing him to retire with damage.

#7 FREDERIK VESTI
“We got a DNF in Zandvoort’s Feature Race. I started from P3 with no intention whatsoever to overtake into T1. I was very relaxed yet I managed to lock my rear tyres in the entry of the corner and spun. I need to stop making mistakes if I want to win this Championship. After that, it was just trying to fight back. To be honest we were in a decent position and did a good job with the strategy to come back into the race. We double-stacked with the team and an issue with the wheel guns meant that both my rear wheels were not tight, so I lost them both when I got on track and had to retire. Still, 12 points to recover in the championship, but the good thing is that we’re going to Monza, looking forward to that.”

#8 OLLIE BEARMAN
“Tough day, where whatever could have gone against us, it did. It’s really annoying because we have been quick all day. In turn one I got completely destroyed from behind, but I managed to come back only to be hit again. It was an unlucky race, but I was quite happy with the things I could control.”
