In qualifying, the Belgian driver at the wheel of the pink Porsche 911 RSR – 19 #85 took the fastest lap time in 1:58.692, securing pole and a crucial extra championship point. This remarkable achievement marks her third pole position of the 2023 WEC season in the GTE AM category and the second in a row on the Bahrain International Circuit.

The 8 Hours of Bahrain serves as the grand finale for the 2023 season, and Sarah Bovy’s pole position sets an exciting tone for the race. The Iron Dames trio of Sarah Bovy, Rahel Frey and Michelle Gatting is poised for a historic opportunity in the championship, as they currently hold second position in the standings. If they maintain their position tomorrow, it will be a groundbreaking moment for an all-female crew in WEC history.

DEBORAH MAYER, IRON DAMES PROJECT FOUNDER
We are incredibly thrilled with Sarah’s pole position in Bahrain. Achieving a third pole position during the season is the testament to the hard work, dedication and talent of the whole Iron Dames team. We are looking forward to seeing Sarah, Rahel and Michelle taking the start tomorrow and never giving up in their ambition. Their pursuit of second position in the FIA World Endurance Championship in class is not only significant for the Iron Dames project but also for the sport. The beauty of motorsport is that it allows women and men to compete on equal terms. Sarah’s performance, and the growing success of women drivers in general, shows that motorsport can break down barriers and make dreams come true.

SARAH BOVY
I really want to dedicate this one to Deborah Mayer, for all the confidence and power she gives us. She is the reason why I’m here. I’m super happy I can take that last GTE pole position, which was extremely difficult. Like all the other categories here, we are struggling with the choice of tyres, how to handle them, how to have enough performance, but not having too much drop off at the same time. I have to give a massive thanks to our engineers and our team of mechanics, who did an incredible job to give me a car that was really sharp and fast for the good lap. That’s another proof that qualifying, while it might be a personal performance, is teamwork. All the decisions we are taking together are the ones that are going to give you the final result.
You can be sure that the pink car will be fighting like hell to bring back that first victory before the end of the GTE era. Will we do it or not? Only the future will tell.
