FIA Formula 2 Championship – PREMA Racing secures 10th win of 2023 at Abu Dhabi
PREMA Racing delivered its win number 10 of the year at Abu Dhabi as Frederik Vesti took a stellar victory in the Sprint Race for the 2023 FIA Formula 2 Championship finale. The Danish racer started from second place and applied pressure on his main competitor early while fighting among a tight pack.
He was soon able to get the nod of the main challengers, and, on lap 20, he went for the lead to bring home his sixth win and trim the gap to the championship lead to 16 points. To cap a perfect race, he also secured the fastest lap. He will be lining up for the Feature Race from row 9 with the goal of making as many positions as possible.
Starting from the 17th place on the grid, Ollie Bearman fought back to the top 10, showing good pace and making a positive comeback after yesterday’s challenging Qualifying session. He will start from the same position tomorrow with a longer race to gain even more chances of a recovery.
#7 FREDERIK VESTI
“We got P1 today in the Sprint Race, and I’m very pleased with how it went. I had a really good start, a bit conservative into turn 1, but I stayed second. Then Enzo had a moment in T5 and I gained the lead. However, the slipstream was insane, and I lost three positions to P4. After the safety car though, I felt really confident, and we had an amazing pace. I was able to overtake the three cars in front of us and win the race quite comfortably. This puts us in a very good position for tomorrow with a lot of confidence. If we can have the same pace tomorrow, I truly believe that great things can happen. Let’s sleep well now, enjoy the day, and wake up with the right mindset for tomorrow and go for it.”
#8 OLLIE BEARMAN
“It was a decent race, I didn’t quite manage to come back to the points but it was a good comeback. Hopefully, we can find some more laptime in me and also the car for tomorrow and have a good race.”
