FIA Formula 2 Championship – PREMA experiences short-lived Sprint Race at Spa-Francorchamps
The opening race of the FIA Formula 2 Championship at Spa-Francorchamps handed no points today to PREMA Racing. After the start was delayed until late afternoon due to inclement weather, further rainfalls still threatened the race and eventually led it to be red-flagged for good.
Both drivers gained positions after the start, and they seemed set for a solid run. Bearman got P7 from P14 on the grid with a quick start, while Antonelli bounced back from a tougher start and went on a charge with a majestic move at Eau Rouge.
By the time the safety car came on track due to a stuck car, he and Bearman were running in P6 and P7 respectively, but worsening conditions led to a red flag, and the race could not be restarted and points were only awarded to the top five finishing drivers.
#3 OLLIE BEARMAN
“We had a bit of a race in the end, although it was pretty short-lived. I made a good start and a good lap 1, but after that, there wasn’t really much to do. Unfortunately no points today, but I think the car felt good, let’s go for tomorrow.”
#4 KIMI ANTONELLI
“The start was not great on my side, then the race was very short to be honest. It’s a shame, because when I moved up again to P6, the pace was really strong, but it was red flagged due to the conditions. Not the best race, but we still have tomorrow!”
