PREMA Racing took a resounding win in the opening race of the FIA Formula 2 weekend at Monza. Starting from the 8th spot on the grid, Ollie Bearman charged to the front early in the race with an exceptional start, and then kept improving hin position, making the final move for the lead on lap 7.

After that, the Briton drove away from the pack in an uneventful run, and ended up winning with a sizeable advantage. Today’s one is his second win of the year, the fourth for PREMA Racing.

Kimi Antonelli had a tougher race as he was he was left with nowhere to go right after the start as other cars collided. The Italian went back to the pits for repairs and was left to race the full distance buried at the back.

He and Bearman will have another opportunity in tomorrow’s Feature Race.

#3 OLLIE BEARMAN
“A great race, finally another P1, I’m really really happy because it was a long time coming and we have been working extremely hard. Monza is my second choice for the win, of course, the first is Silverstone, my home Grand Prix. I was really feeling well with the car today and once I got in the lead it was basically a 30-minute qualifying session between me and Victor. I enjoyed that very much. Super happy, thank you everyone for the support.”

#4 KIMI ANTONELLI
“The Sprint Race is done and it was definitely not the one we wanted. Starting so far back there was already a big mess on the straight and I got caught in the crash. We were very unlucky as I had to do the whole race on supersofts and we knew it would have been very tough as these tyres have a short life. It was still good learning for the Feature Race. Now we will just reset and focus on tomorrow.”
