FIA Formula 2 Championship – PREMA Racing posts top-10 result in Qatar Qualifying
PREMA Racing didn’t have the easiest day at Lusail International Circuit as the FIA Formula 2 Championship got underway for the first time at the Qatari venue.
At the end of qualifying, Ollie Bearman posted the 10th fastest lap, putting up a solid effort despite struggling a bit with traffic in the decisive phase. He will be starting from P1 in the Sprint Race. On the other hand, Kimi Antonelli also made progress throughout the session after an early off, but could not improve on his last flying lap, also due to traffic, which forced him to eventually settle for P11.
The team will now prepare for the opening race of the weekend, which will be held in similar night conditions as in qualifying, while the Feature Race will go underway before sunset on Sunday.
#3 OLLIE BEARMAN
“Tough day since Free Practice where we were out of it. The window has been super tight all day. That made the car unpredictable and it was difficult to put the lap together. I’m a bit happier with qualifying, although, with the second set, there was a little less potential. The first set felt really really good, but with the second one, it was a bit of a messy run. I was unable to put the lap that I wanted together. I think the car has decent potential and we have a good starting position for tomorrow.”
#4 KIMI ANTONELLI
“It was a difficult qualifying session. I went off on lap 1 with the first set of tyres and never really got the grip back. The second set felt much better, but unfortunately, I caught traffic in the final sector of my last lap and I lost quite a bit of time. We could have achieved a better result today, but we still have two races to do the best job possible.”
