The FIA Formula 2 Championship will be back at Bahrain International Circuit this weekend for a highly-anticipated event coming from the opening trip to Australia. PREMA Racing showcased impressive performance in Melbourne, claiming P1 in qualifying and a double points finish in the Sprint Race. The Middle Eastern Kingdom, and its state-of-the-art track located 30 kilometers away from the Capital, Manama, is set to host the first Feature Race of the year as adverse weather forced the series to cancel it at Albert Park.

Sebastian Montoya and Gabriele Minì stand tied in points, with the Italian also having a fastest lap to his score. Both drivers have competed at the Sakhir venue in the past, expressing good potential, although the circuit is particularly challenging for tyre wear and general race management with relatively high temperatures and an abrasive surface plus the fine desert sand sometimes getting in the way.

While the tyre choice is on the hard side, management will be key. For the occasion, Pirelli will bring the P-Zero Hard White tyres as the Prime choice, with two sets of P-Zero Red Soft rubber as the option. Teams and drivers already had the chance to test in Bahrain in late March’s three-day session, experimenting with the track conditions in the different times of day that will be used for the sessions, ranging from early to late afternoon, under natural and artificial light.

Rene Rosin – Team Principal
“The one in Bahrain has always been one of the most challenging of the year, due to the nature of the track and its variables, and it’s also quite unique to get back into action from one continent to another, but it’s a challenge we enjoy. We think we can rely on some solid foundations and potential so we are very much looking forward to the weekend.”
