ATS Formel 3 Cup – Weekend of the winners
The scene celebrated a successful 2013 season at the last big motorsports event of the year in Germany, the Essen Motor Show. Marvin Kirchhöfer and Freddy Killensberger were the outstanding winners among the ATS Formula 3 Cup line-up. The latter was officially awarded the Ravenol Media Award, while the champion travelled to the Ruhr Area for several reasons. The 19-year old received the SONAX Rookie Award of the ATS Formula 3 Cup and was named the overall winner of the Deutsche Post Speed Academy.
The stand of the Formula 3 Association in hall 6 at the Essen Motor Show is definitely worth a visit. Partner Ravenol is exhibiting the car of Danish driver Nicolai Sylvest, who is going to contest the 2014 ATS Formula 3 Cup. Freddy Killensberger received the Ravenol Media Award, including a €5,000 cheque, from Ravenol Motorsport Director Martin Huning at the stand. “I am very happy that I won this award because I did not expect it,” says the runner-up in the Trophy ranking. “I can use the money for tests. So, perhaps I will have a better start next year.” Ravenol is a strong partner of the ATS Formula 3 Cup and this media award ensures high-quality training off the track. “I was really surprised about the variety of the concepts,” says Martin Huning, Motorsport Director at the supplier of lubricants and member of the jury. “This is the ATS Formula 3 Cup, the fastest national single-seater series. The drivers must deliver and the members of the jury can have high expectations.” Jordi Weckx visited the stand to finish his project for the Ravenol Media Award. The driver drew two winners who will be able to take part in a practice session in the driving simulator of Van Amersfoort Racing. “I have learned how important it is to speak to people personally,” says the Belgian. “It is not enough to hand out a flyer. Only when they see that you are enthusiastic about it, they will be enthusiastic too.”
Kirchhöfer wins Sonax Rookie Award
Olaf Schilling was one of the members of the international jury of the Ravenol Media Award. The chief editor of Auto Bild Motorsport magazine organized the Race Night at the Essen Motor Show. Before the event another winner was announced. Manfred Hoffmann, managing director at Sonax, gave the Sonax Rookie Award to Marvin Kirchhöfer. “I think this is a great award. You are a rookie in many aspects, but you never get awarded for it,” says the current ATS Formula 3 Cup champion. “That is why it is very special to honour that and award a trophy and a cheque for that.” The 19-year old driver form Leipzig received 10,000 Euros. He is currently working on financing his goal, the GP3. And he got another extra payment for that. As the winner of the Deutsche Post Speed Academy he also received a €75,000 cheque.
