BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS topped the charts at the end of 20 hours at the 24 Hours of Spa. Dirk Werner, Markus Palttala and Lucas Luhr, in the #77 BMW Z4 GT3, held the lead by nearly a minute. The hours since daylight all followed a familiar pattern, the #77 able to hold the lead until the pitstop, where it swapped with the #1 Audi – and vice versa. The conclusion of this strategic battle was difficult to predict – a small mistake or safety car could mean the difference between victory and defeat for the Belgian team.

For the last four hours, they must continue to make sure every pitstop is perfect, every lap is consistent and no mistakes are made.

Bas Leinders, Team Principal
“It’s enthralling, this battle, but I hope we have an edge. It’s hard to say what is going to happen at the finish but we’ll continue to race hard and to the best of our ability. Of course it will be tough, the hardest challenge there is, but this crew is the best there is, and I have total confidence in them.”

Dirk Werner, BMW Z4 GT3 #77
“I don’t want to say too much right now, because it is so unpredictable. I have my fingers crossed and just trust my teammates when they are in the car, the mechanics when they work on the car and the engineers when they make the strategy calls. For my part, I’ll just drive as fast and smooth as I can. It’s going to be so tight, and I have my fingers crossed!”
