HANKOOK 12H HUNGARY – A great race in itself and a perfect dress rehearsal for Dubai
After last weekend’s very successful 24H BARCELONA, the Hankook 12H HUNGARY is coming up next as the fifth and final round of this year’s 24H SERIES powered by Hankook. On Friday, 3 October, and Saturday, 4 October, the Hungaroring will be hosting the international endurance race for GTs, touring cars and 24H Specials for the sixth year already. “We got very positive feedback from many teams and drivers after the race in Barcelona, and now we are working flat-out on making the race in Hungary a success again, too,” says Gerrie Willems on behalf of Dutch agency, CREVENTIC, promoters and organisers of the Hankook 12H HUNGARY in co-operation with DNRT (Dutch National Racing Team). “We have received 36 provisional entries already. Teams interested to take part in this race still have the chance to sign up, but they must act quickly. We know that many teams are considering our race in Hungary as a dress rehearsal for our flagship event, the Hankook 24H DUBAI, from 8 till 10 January next year, but the Hankook 12H HUNGARY is a great race in itself, too!”
Class structures and technical regulations for the Hankook 12H HUNGARY are identical with those of the Hankook 24H DUBAI, as well as for all the other events of the 24H SERIES powered by Hankook. The compact, two-day event format with plenty of track time is making the Hankook 12H HUNGARY an ideal opportunity for teams and drivers to enjoy another endurance race with many international teams and drivers before the European motor racing season comes to an end. Participation is possible for teams varying from two to five drivers and a national licence is sufficient to compete. The Hungaroring, located in Mogyoród near the Hungarian capital of Budapest, can be easily reached within a day’s driving from Frankfurt or Bologna while Budapest’s Ferenc Liszt International Airport is served by airlines from all over the world.
The Hungaroring is considered as a technical circuit with facilities to Formula 1 standards. The track first hosted a Formula 1 Grand Prix in 1986 and has featured on the Formula 1 World Championship calendar every year since that inaugural event with legendary drivers like Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton (four wins each), Ayrton Senna (three wins), Nelson Piquet and Mika Häkkinen (two wins each) featuring on the winners’ list. This year, Red Bull’s Australian driver, Daniel Ricciardo became the most recent winner of the Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix. This season, the Hungaroring also hosted other major race series such as the FIA World Touring Car Championship, the FIA Formula 3 European Championship and the DTM.
Currently, 36 teams are on the provisional entry list for the Hankook 12H HUNGARY with a good mix of GTs, touring cars and 24H Specials. Hankook once again is the title sponsor and exclusive tyre supplier of the event. On Friday, 3 October, the action starts with an optional private test from 9.00 till 13.30 hrs followed by free practice from 15.00 till 16.30 hrs, qualifying from 16.45 till 18.00 hrs and night practice from 19.00 till 20.00 hrs. The race starts on Saturday, 4 October, at 8.00 hrs and ends at 20.00 hrs, immediately followed by the prize-giving ceremony.
