DTM – Pascal Wehrlein to contest the Race of Champions
This weekend (13th to 14th December), Mercedes-Benz DTM driver Pascal Wehrlein will make his first appearance in the Race of Champions. In the team competition he will be teamed up with reigning GP2-Champion Jolyon Palmer. Together they will represent the colours of the team ‘Young Stars’.
In the past season at the Lausitzring, Wehrlein celebrated his first DTM win, thus becoming the youngest winner in the 30 years of DTM history. A short time later he was appointed test and reserve driver of the Silver Arrow Formula 1 Team.
“Having the chance of competing in this tradition-rich event represents a big honour for me,” said Wehrlein. “In the past, I watched the ‘Race of Champions’ on TV and now I’m looking forward to battling it out with top drivers from all over the world. The circuit in the ‘Bushy Park Barbados’ looks great. I just can’t wait for going out onto the track for the first time. For me, the participation represents the perfect end of a great season that gave me my first DTM pole position, my first DTM win and my first Formula 1 test.”
The ‘Race of Champions’ is held at Barbados for the first time, this year. Other than the recent editions that were held in big stadiums, the drivers will have to race on a track erected in the Bushy Park Barbados. In addition to Wehrlein, the former DTM drivers Tom Kristensen, Susie Wolff and David Coulthard as well as reigning FIA Formula 3 European Champion Esteban Ocon also will be on the grid.
