Sergio Canamasas at Italy´s hallowed “Temple of Speed”

One of the most difficult and legendary race tracks hosts the next round of the GP2 Series. The Spaniard driver of Team Lazarus, fighting for points spots at Spa-Francorchamps, eyes top ten places at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, located near the city of the same name.

Two weeks after the Belgian GP2 Series round at Spa-Francorchamps, the championship heads to Italy for another classic venue in the calendar: Monza. For Sergio Canamasas, the Italian event will be his second consecutive weekend racing under Team Lazarus banner. At Spa, Canamasas and Team Lazarus carried out fantastic teamwork and they almost scored points in Sunday´s race. On Saturday, race suspension ruined Canamasas´ chances and he couldn´t take full advantage from his pit strategy.

“Just like Spa-Francorchamps, Monza is another exciting circuit and we all love racing there. Monza has a lot of history, and I would say it is an essential part of motorsport and Monza is always a very special moment of the year. That said, Monaza is very different from any other, as it is the highest-speed circuit on the calendar”, Canamasas explains. He stresses that “it isn´t strange if you have twenty cars within one second, so one or two tenths faster or slower make a big difference. So we need to have a good set up, because it will play a huge role. For Team Lazarus, based in Padua, this is its home event, so they are encouraged. We almost managed to score our first points together at Spa-Francorchamps, so my target is fighting for points spots because it would give a major morale booster”.

Free practice and qualifying sessions take place on Friday. Saturday´s Race 1 is due to start at 15.40, with Race 2 on Sunday at 10.35.
