Álvaro Fontes to pair with Jordi Oriola at Navarra
Spaniard Fontes, following his participation at the 24 hours of Barcelona, is back to action in the Spanish Endurance Championship with his PCR Sport-entered SEAT León Cup Racer. Jordi Oriola, one of the most promising touring drivers in Spain, joins Fontes in Los Arcos. PCR Sport duo eye podium finish.
Álvaro Fontes gets back behind the wheel of a racing car next weekend. Following his 24-hour challenge at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Fontes starts the second half of the Spanish Endurance Championship season at Circuito de Navarra, which hosts Round 4.
And the event brings its good share of interesting novelties for Fontes. The Málaga-born driver, whose teammate was Mirco van Oostrum so far, will share the PCR Sport SEAT León Cup Racer with Jordi Oriola. Oriola, aged 19, contested a number of international series such as the TCR International Series, the SEAT Leon Eurocup or the Spanish Endurance Championship, where he has always shown his raw speed. PCR Sport pair eyes podium finish at the weekend. At the moment Fontes sits 2nd in Clase 1 and D1, just four points behind the leader, and also lies second in the SEAT León Trophy, with a two-point deficit.
“I am keen to compete this round teaming up with Jordi. He is an extremely young, fast driver but at the same time he has proven experience with Cup Racer cars. In fact, he has already taken podium finishes in the SEAT Leon Eurocup. So, I am sure we will be pretty competitive next weekend”, Fontes explains, commenting that “our goal is to collect as many points as possible. I sit second overall. My goal is to take the overall lead in our class. Anyway we know it is going to be a closely-fought weekend and can´t take anything for granted”.
Sunday´s races will take place at 09.10 and 13.15.
