AVF takes points finish with Alfonso Celis Jr
The AVF by Adrián Vallés team went back to the points zone in round 7 of the Formula Renault 3.5 championship as the World Series Renault teams and drivers completed race 1 today at the Nürburgring. After a strong qualifying performance that resulted in a 12th place on the grid, Dutch female racer Beitske Visser flatspotted one of her tires during the race, and struggled to keep hold of the car. On the other hand, Mexican Alfonso Celis Jr., who ended up being trapped by the red flag in qualifying, recovered up to the 10th place by the end of the race making his way back to the points zone after the the series opener at Alcaniz.
Alfonso Celis Jr. (#15) Qualifying 1: P15 1’42”232 – Race 1: P10 +30”844
“The qualifying result is disappointing, as yesterday we had a very good pace and we could have scored a better result without the red flag. Then during the race I flatspotted a tire pretty badly and then tried to save the whole situation. I often tend to wear the tires out in the GP3 Series, and I need to start focusing on their management in this series too”.
Beitske Visser (#16) Qualifying 1: P12 1’42”014 – Race 1: P16 +44”832
“We performed quite well in qualifying, although we had a better potential. We just didn’t have the chance to finish our lap. In the race I locked the front pretty hard, and from that point on the car became a handful to drive bringing more braking issues”.
Sunday: Qualifying 2 9:00 – Race 2 13:00
