Gearbox issues hamper Canamasas´ progress

Team Lazarus driver experienced gearbox issues with his Dallara GP2/12 in the morning and couldn´t do his full schedule. Later, in rain-hit qualifying session Canamasas struggled with set up far from the perfection and will start on eleventh row of the grid.

Sergio Canamasas has experienced a particularly hard Friday at the Sochi Autodrom, which is hosting the antepenultimate round of the GP2 Series. In the morning, his Team Lazarus´ car hit gearbox problems and finished 18th in the timesheets with a best lap of 1:47.300. Today´s qualifying session wasn´t easy at all as took place on the wet track and his set-up in wet conditions still has room for improvement. Canamasas stopped the clocks on 2:04.998 and will start on eleventh row of the grid in race one.

“That is not quite what I had hoped for. We had a bad start in the morning and we couldn´t put the day back on the right track. Now I need to focus on another solid recovery tomorrow. If I manage to make a good start and our pit stop strategy is good, we will be able to power back into top-ten contention”, Canamasas said afterwards.

Saturday´s Feature race, with mandatory pit stop, is due to start at 16.40 (local time).
