Fontes ends the season on the podium

The Malaga-born driver stepped onto the D1 podium on his debut at the wheel of the GC Automobile GC10-V8 shared with Toni Castillo and Lionel Amrouche at the 500kms of Alcañiz. Fontes and his teammates had to settle for second place following alternator pulley issues.

Álvaro Fontes achieved another brilliant result in the season-ending race at Motorland Aragón as he earned another podium finish at the 500 kilometers of Alcañiz. His result was especially brilliant considering he was debuting at the wheel of the GC Automobile-built GC10-V8 model, an extremely demanding and quick “Silhouette” car.

Fontes surprised the team with his quick adaptation and topped the practice session with the car shared with Toni Castillo and Lionel Amrouche. Spaniard driver set a best lap of 1:58.307, which he improved in qualifying to post a time of 1:57.400 (2nd in D1 class and 3rd overall). Despite the trio of GC Automobile dropped two places at the beginning of the race but soon they moved up to the top-3 again. They were in win contention in D1 class and when Fontes made his stint, even fastest lap was set 1:59.225). Unfortunately, alternator pulley issues cost 16 minutes and any chance of winning. Anyway, their final charge was good enough to secure second in class, a brilliant result on his debut with the GC10-V8.

“I am very pleased with our result. To clinch another podium finish is great. It was a fantastic first outing with GC Automobile, they are a small but professional team. My teammates Toni and Lionel also performed good stints”, Fontes commented. Fontes stressed “we were fighting for class honors but unfortunately alternator pulley issues prevented us from achieving that goal. Anyway we finished on the rostrum. I thought my season was a true dream and this podium in Alcañiz ends the season with a flourish.”
