WILDCARD RAOUL HYMAN TO STIR UP BRITISH F3
Last minute call-up sees SA racer Hyman enter the British Formula 3 round at Brands Hatch
South African European Formula 3 racer Raoul Hyman returns to UK racing when he enters the British Formula 3 championship for this weekend’s second round at the Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit.
Durban-born Raoul won four races en route to ending up third in the British Formula 4 championship in 2014 before stepping up to the European Formula 3 championship last year. Hyman continues in Euro F3, but received a late call-up to race in the recently relaunched British F3 series, where he will line up for his old team HHC Motorsport.
“The opportunity came very late to race in British Formula 3 at Brand Hatch this weekend,” the UK-based South African explained. “It’s a cool opportunity to get some race laps in, and to return to a circuit that I won at in Formula 4.
“I wish to thank my old team HHC for this opportunity, and also my Euro F3 team Carlin for allowing me to participate. “I am really looking forward to driving the new BRDC British Formula 3 car — it’s a completely new chassis with a much more powerful drivetrain than my old Formula 4 car, and Pirelli tyres. “I hope to get to grips with it quickly, and see where we are pace wise. ”
Hyman is one of three South Africans racing in British Formula 3 this weekend alongside Sisa Ngebulana and Eugene Denyssen, but his focus remains the European Formula 3 championship, which sits a rung up the motorsport ladder from the British series and has seen many of the world’s finest drivers to F1.
