BRUISING BRITISH F3 RETURN FOR QUICK HYMAN

SA wildcard Raul Hyman out of luck on Brands Hatch British Formula 3 return

European Formula 3 racer Raoul Hyman endured a challenging wildcard outing in British Formula 3 championship over the weekend, when the quick South African found himself completely out of luck at the Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit races.

England-based Durban-born Raoul was quick out of the box in practice and slotted onto the front row of the grid with the second quickest qualifying pace before enjoying a strong opening 12 laps as part of the lead battle in third position. Then he was caught out by a sudden squall and slipped off in the damp, but he regained the track to bring it home seventh. “I had a good race and a good drive up front. “Hyman explained. “But I was caught out by the sudden rain — luckily I was able to collect it and come home second.”

Raoul was once again second on the grid for race 2, but he suffered a driveline failure on the start to take an early shower before starting sixth in the finale and quickly moving up to fourth before being eliminated in a fourth-lap incident that brought out the red flag.

“That was a difficult weekend.” Raoul reflected. “It was good to go back to my old series and I was happy to get onto the pace quickly after the late call-up, but things just never really went my way — we were quick throughout the weekend but we never quite found any luck. “I must once again to thank my old team HHC for this opportunity, and also my Euro F3 team Carlin for allowing me to compete this weekend.”

Hyman now returns to duty in the higher profile European Formula 3 at the Hungoraring near Budapest in Hungary this coming weekend.
