Cape Town’s 14 May Mopar African Endurance 3 Hour Series is attracting a quality field as close of entries approaches for the race into the evening at the foot of Table Mountain.

“So far we have attracted a quality field for our second round of the 2016 Mopar series at Killarney,” series boss Roger Pearce confirmed. “We have our reigning champions and the winners of the first race both chasing home glory and there are many other interesting entries — from some pretty quick prototype sports cars to Lamborghinis to Vipers to a fleet of saloons and hatchbacks, so the race should be a cracker as usual.”

Leading entries include the Nick Adcock/Simon Murray Ligier JS49 that won the Welkom’s opening race and which faces up to Cape hometown rivals and 2016 championship crew Francis Carruthers and Johan Engelbrecht in last year’s race winning Juno SS3, while two teams of brothers looking at turning cracking pace into a race win are Jason and Keegan Campos’ Shelby Can Am V8 and Scribante siblings Franco and Silvio’s immaculate Chevron B26 V8.

Several other notable prototype racers and a field of Lamborghini Gallardo, Dodge Viper and Porsche 911 GT3 machines will be looking to pick up the pieces should any the favourites err, while a broad field of tin-top racers will as always be out to beat the quicker machinery to Index of Performance honours.

African Endurance Attraction
The Mopar African Endurance Series offers prospective overseas competitors the chance to race in a top championship around South Africa at a fraction of the cost of any other international series thanks to the relative weakness of the rand.

Local teams offer competitive race seats at very reasonable money, or international teams can ship cars in and house, prepare and race them through the season at a fraction of what it would cost to do so in Europe or anywhere else in the world. And then of course there is the opportunity of turning each visit into another magnificent Southern African safari…

“The Mopar African Endurance series is a wonderful opportunity for European, American and other racers looking for a damn good championship and a hell of a lot more,” series boss Pearce points out. “We race in a colonial atmosphere with full grids of prototypes, GTs and saloon cars and competing teams offer competitive drives at prices you will find impossible to believe.

“We’d love to host more international teams and drivers in the Mopar African Endurance Series and invite anyone from anywhere in the world to come race with us,” Pearce concluded. “South Africa has an impeccable endurance racing history and this is a wonderful opportunity to help write the next chapter.”

The second of six 2016 Mopar African Endurance series races, the Mopar Cape 3 Hour will meanwhile run at the end of Killarney’s regular spectacular 14 May Wingfield Power Series meeting featuring GTI Challenge, Sport Clubmans, Historic and motorcycle races in a full and varied program for a complete day’s racing entertainment.
