Mopar African Endurance – SCRIBANTES SNARE MOPAR CAPE 3 HOUR POLE

Chevron cousins on pole position for Cape Town 3-hour at Killarney

Scribante cousins, Durbanite Franco and Silvio from Port Elizabeth will start Saturday’s Mopar Cape 3-hour race at Killarney in pole position their immaculate Scuderia Scribante Chevron B26 V8 after Franco came within a few hundredths of a second of breaking Killarney’s magical 1 minute-ten second barrier in qualifying Friday evening.
The Scribante Chevron circulated the 4km Cape racetrack 1.1 seconds faster than local driver Colin Plit’s Tricera Investments Juno SS3, which ended up alongside the Chevron on the front row ahead of two more Cape crews, the championship leading Nick Adcock/Simon Murray Rico Barlow Racing/Aid Call 24/7 Ligier JS49 ad Francis Carruthers and Johan Engelbrecht’s reigning champion Malta No. 1 Harp Motorsport Juno SS3.

Qualifying had promised to be a shootout between the Scribante brothers, the Carruthers Juno and Campos brothers Keegan and Jason’s Campos Shelby-Ford V8, but the Juno lost its earlier pace and the Shelby sat qualifying out with an engine issue to ultimately hand the Scribantes an easy pole position.

That also left the way open for the GT class duel to fill the third row of the grid, with local duo Craig Jarvis and Marcel Angel’s monster Panacea Dodge Viper GT3 edging Tato Carello and Rui Campos BMW M3 GT for fifth ahead of Keith and Gary Fourie and William D Luzmore’s Porsche 911 GT3 and Theo van Vuuren, Bradley Scorer and Chad Wentzel slotting the Mopar Alfa Romeo GT into a handy 8th overall to claim the kudos of beong the fastest tin-top.

Saturday promises a perfect Cape Autumn’s day with the Mopar Cape 3 hour due to start just after 17h00 following a full day’s cracking Cape Winfield Motors Killarney Power Tour regional race action.
