Canamasas makes his GP2 combeack at Spa-Francorchamps

Spain´s racer is to make a return to track action in the GP2 Series, which resumes after summer break, by joining Carlin for Round 8 at Spa-Francorchamps. Canamasas is arguably one of the most experienced drivers in the field and looks forward to driving the Dallara-built car once again.

Sergio Canamasas makes his return to the GP2 Series at Spa-Francorchamps next weekend. Spa is one of the most classic race tracks on the calendar and beloved by drivers such as Canamasas, who expects step forward on his comeback. The Barcelona-born driver, the sole Spaniard competing in GP2, finished 5th at the season opening Spanish Grand Prix in May and came 6th in Azerbaijan. Besides, he took seven top-ten finishes. Spa-Francorchamps is the world´s most roller coaster-like circuit and features fast areas with a slower middle sector and famous corners such as Eau Rouge, La Source, Les Combes or Stavelot. Pirelli has chosen P Zero Orange hard and P Zero Yellow soft compounds for Spa.

“I´m very pleased to return to the GP2 Series. It is nice to drive for Carlin again because I don´t think it is a good idea to join another team in the middle of the season. Racing around Spa-Francorchamps is always great, because I love this track just like almost everyone else. It is a real challenge, a very demanding race track”, Canamasas explained before heading to Belgium. Spain´s driver also said that “qualifying isn´t so important at Spa, but rather a good set up for the race and your pace. Sunny conditions are expected across the weekend and, if nothing strange happens, I feel confident to be competitive in the Ardennes”.

Friday´s qualifying session takes place at 15.55. Race 1 is due to start on Saturday at 15.40 with a mandatory pit stop and Race 2 will take place on Sunday at 10.25.
