The fastest track of the season will host round nine of the GP2 Series and Carlin driver will try to score good points following his seventh place finish at Spa-Francorchamps last Sunday. Canamasas was able to climb back through trough the field to log a sixth place finish last year after starting from the back of the grid.

There is no rest for Sergio Canamasas as the GP2 Series head to Italy for one of his favorite race tracks throughout the season, the “Temple of Speed”: Monza. Carlin driver came seventh in the Sunday race at Spa-Francorchamps and adding two points to his tally. Such a rewarding result was an important morale booster for both Canamasas and his team. The Barcelona-born driver looks to continue his streak on Italian soil.

“It was so important to collect some points at Spa as we achieved an unexpected result in the face of adversity. So, our goals are even more ambitious at Monza. I really love it because it really suits my driving style. It is an ultra fast circuit demanding particularly high speeds, but at the same time you need to have a competitive car during extreme braking conditions”, Canamasas explains underlining the fact that “I clinched a sixth place on Sunday last year. In fact, I would have finished fourth but I experienced massive braking problems. I know how competitive we become at Monza. Besides, it isn´t that difficult to overtake other cars in comparison to other race tracks. My weekend proved that last year even starting the race from the back of the grid. This said, it is going to be important to complete a good qualifying session and we need looking for the best set-up on our Dallara. That´s key to have a good race pace in both races”.

As Monza is known for its long straights, high top speeds and heavy braking zones, Pirelli has selected medium and soft compounds.

As usual, Friday is devoted to free practice and qualifying sessions ahead of Saturday´s feature race (15.40) and Sunday´s sprint race (10.25).
