Team Icer Brakes secures 1-2 finish at Dubai 24 hours
Team Icer Brakes, who sponsored Germany´s Sorg Rennsport, claimed season´s first one-two finish at 2017 24 hours of Dubai in Cup 1 class, which is incredibly competitive and closely-fought. Dubai has become one of the most important 24-hour endurance races. There, the Spanish duo of Jesús Díez Villarroel and José Manuel De Los Milagros took 2nd place finish directly behind its sister car, also sponsored by Icer Brakes. Both drivers built their success on concentration and mistake-free driving.
Díez Villarroel and De los Milagros, partnering with Ahmed Al Melaihi, George Richardson and Shawn Peh, qualified third in class on Thursday. In Friday´s 24 hour race, mechanical issues in his BMW M235i Racing Cup forced to stop and cost 30 minutes spent in the pits and it prevented them from winning. Still, they managed to put in a recovery drive to finish second, completing 491 laps – 6 six laps down to the class winner-. Nevertheless, De los Milagros and Díez Villarroel were extremely pleased with their result but at the same time tired. They had to drive cautiously in the process of being lapped by faster cars.
The multinational team, including two Spaniards and three other drivers from Singapore, England and UAE, also set the fastest lap in Cup 1 class. Besides, they also led their class during several stages of the race an never dropped outside the top four.
