SA GT Challengers to take on Cape’s best

Cape race fans will get their first taste of latest generation supercar racers in action when a Ferrari 458 GT3 and Lamborghini Huracan GT3 join a bumper South African GT Challenge grid for its second round at Killarney Saturday 13 May. Local ace Marcel Angel will have his new Autohaus Angel Ferrari 458 out at home for the first time, while Greg Parton will give his Drizit Lamborghini Huracan its first trot in the Cape.

The GT races will also boast a full grid of both existing SA GT machinery and a strong contingent of local Cape competitors, so it will not be a simple matter for that newest machinery, with a strong list of top class GT3 entries out to beat their newfangled rivals, including championship leader Simon Murray’s Stradale Lamborghini Gallardo GT3, Charl Aranges’ Stradale Ferrari 430 GT3 and Nicky Dicks’ Porsche 911 RSR.

They will all have their work cut out by super-quick Cape Town wildcards, Johan Engelbrecht’s Jogjoga Porsche 911 GT2, Dawie Joubert’s crazy Le Joubert Lotus Exige Honda, Craig, Jarvis in his Panacea Viper SRT10 and Andre Brink’s SSB Porsche 997 GT3. Other local regulars, Gary Kieswetter’s Advanced Packaging Porsche, Matt Kreve’s Nine-XI Porsche and Nicholas Cunningham Moorat’s Nissan GT-R will give the fastest visitors even more to think about.

There should be a similar wrought for GT Challenge honours, where local Porsche regulars Cyril Ginsburg and Maarten Prins will be keen to get one up on a quality list of out of town entries including Bigfoot Express Porsche Carrera Cup duo Sun Moodley and Andrew Culbert and last race winner Jonathan Schenkman’s Lamborghini Gallaro Supertrofeo.

The fledgling GT4 class should prove just as interesting, with visitors the likes of Harry Arangies’ Ford Shelby Mustang and Johan Hattingh’s Nissan 370Z dicing locals Philip Booysen’s Belfreeze Lotus Exige and Scoois Joubert’s Ariel Atom among others for smallest class laurels.

The South African GT Challenge will run in its regular two race format on the day alongside Killarney’s regular regional racing fare, as well as the Campos Cape 400 African Endurance Championship race, which runs into Saturday evening with several of the GT machines doing double duty there too. Sounds like a great day at the races – see you at Killarney!
