ADAC German Formula 4 – Troubled weekend for quick Jonathan

South Africa’s ADAC German Formula 4 driver Jonathan Aberdein showed great pace through the Nurburgring meeting over the past weekend, but the Cape Town driver was out of luck in the races and unable to deliver on that great promise. Aberdein qualified third but he lost his front wing in a chaotic first race, which put paid to any positive results.

“We had great pace all weekend,” Jonathan rued. “We were second in Friday morning practice and then I put it on the second row of the grid and we were confident of a great weekend. “Unfortunately I managed to clip my front wing in that chaotic red-flagged first race and we decided to stop because I was going nowhere.

“The second race only lasted a few laps before it was red-flagged and then the time ran out — I started ninth and that’s where I stayed, but at least we scored some points, but my first race disaster saw me starting right at the back, which promised an interesting third race as the Nurburgring is a notoriously difficult track to pass on.

“The final was a good race —  I passed six cars on the first lap and then four more through the race to go from 26th to 16th, so I’m pretty happy with that. “Sadly I never had much to take away from the Nurburgring besides having a little more good experience  under my belt.” There are two rounds of the ADAC German Formula 4 championship left — the first being at the Sachsenring 15-17 September.
