Formula 4 US Series – Durban driver takes maiden ‘States victory

Durban lad Jordan Sherratt did South Africa proud over the weekend, when he took a maiden victory in the Formula 4 United States Championship at the Virginia International Raceway. What’s more, Sherratt, who also finished second in the weekend’s other two races, took the overall win for the day to shoot up into a fighting fourth in the championship race.

“What a weekend for us!” Sherratt celebrated after the race. “Three races, my first race win, three podiums and overall points winner for the weekend — wow! “My Crosslink Racing team has been working endless hours to get to this point and to bring the car home in first place was the highlight of my weekend — I know it also means so much to the team because they have put their hearts into it and I have to thank them for giving me an amazing car to do the job with.”

Jordan started his Formula 4 United States Championship Powered by Honda weekend at the Virginia International Raceway as the underdog, but he kept out of trouble to emerge second behind US driver Skylar Robinson after a hectic opening heat. Starting sixth in the second race Sherratt made up a few places on the first lap before continuing his charge up into second, from where he took advantage of a penultimate lap safety car restart to move into the lead. Then another full-course caution was called to see a delighted Sherratt take the chequers under yellow flags.

Jordan then found himself in a close second position and fighting for the lead again toward the end of the final heat — he tried to pull a move to pass Argentine Baltazar Leguizamon on the final lap, but his efforts were thwarted to see him come home a close second as he took overall honours for the day. “Words cannot describe how I’m feeling right now — being on a single-car team, which came from karting, this whole season has been a huge learning experience for us.

“As we gain more knowledge, the car gains more speed — this victory is the fruit of a full team effort to get to where we are now, so it was a very emotional podium! “My confidence has increased drastically after this great weekend and I’m looking forward to the next round at the Circuit of the Americas in a couple of weeks — I’m up to fourth in the championship, just points behind third — let’s do this!”
