Red Star Raceway, Mphumalanga – Peter hustles Shelby to victory
Saturday’s season opening Historic Tour races proved a happy hunting ground for Lindenberg Racing at Red Star Raceway, where team patron Peter raced to overall victory in his Shelby GT350 Mustang, daughter Paige hustled her monster Fairlane to fourth in class and seventh overall, and Djurk Venter brought his Escort home 14th overall and 3rd in class in the saloon car races.
It was a perfect weekend for old man Lindenberg who revelled in the Shelby Mustang following a season away to recuperate from a difficult hip operation. “I’m back to doing what I love best and it’s such a blast.” Pete explained. “A year ago I was told to stop racing after a really scary medical complication and today I’m back and winning races with this fantastic car — I am so thankful to be able to do this with my team and family — it’s such a bonus!”
“That was a tough weekend out at Red Star in the beast on old rubber!” Paige admitted after fighting her monster Fairlane around the twisty Red Star Raceway. “This is never an easy track in the Fairlane, but I still loved every minute of the challenge and we bagged some solid points to start the championship – now I’m looking forward to a good and exciting season ahead.”
“This little Escort is a wonderful car to race and I had some great dices today,” Djurk Venter pointed out. I had a great day and some fine dices today and third in this competitive class is a great start — I can’t wait for the next race at Zwartkops on 4 April – bring it on!”
