Lindenberg Racing came back from Phakisa’s Historic Tour race weekend with mixed emotions after Peter Lindenberg won both his races, while Djurk Venter won his first race only to be bumped up a class when he broke out, but it was a day to forget for Paige Lindenberg after her Fairlane was eliminated for the weekend after a first race collision.

Peter Lindenberg took his glorious Shelby Mustang to a pair of wins in the SKF Pre-66 U2 class. “My Shelby Mustang ran like a dream today,” Langebaan-based Peter admitted. “It is such an awesome car to drive on a track like this and even better that we brought home a couple of race wins today. “It was a bit of a difficult one for the team – Djurk was too quick and we are all most relieved that Paige is OK, although the same cannot be said for the Fairlane, but that we will fix.”

Djurk Venter and his nimble Escort took a fine win in Class G of the Marlboro Crane Hire Pre-’80 Saloons race, but his pace was too good and his lap time saw him break out to move up to Class F for the second heat, where he ended up ninth. “That was a bittersweet victory,” Djurk rued. “It was great to win the first race, but I was too quick and I broke out and was bumped into Class F for the second race. “I had a good race there, but we now need to do a little work to be competitive up front in the quicker class…”

It was however an early shower for Paige Lindenberg and her monster Fairlaine after a lap 4 accident in the Marlboro Crane Hire Pre-’80 saloon car race. “I was chasing Sophos Pantizis in the 240Z when we found a slower Datsun in the middle of the track and we went around the inside into turn 1,” Paige explained. “It became a bit crowded as Johan Smith’s Mazda RX2 and Neil Lobb’s Fiat 131 were also trying to get back up to speed after dodging that Datsun and three cars do not fit in one space — Johan and I touched and I spun across him and made contact with Neil too en route to my ending up on the tyre wall.

“Such a pity and an unfortunate incident, but the Fairlane was hurt and we were out for the day.” It is also unlikely the Fairlane will be ready for the next round of the Historic Tour when Lindenberg Racing visits the Midvaal Raceway 7 July.
